getting started...

Hiya (gives a friendly wave). This is the start of my blog where I will be documenting my art journey. What you’ll see from here on out will be a mix of traditional printmaking, digital drawing, and just general updates on my life as it relates to creating my art.

I have learned traditional printmaking, but only the Western techniques. Soon I will be experimenting with the Eastern techniques, primarily those from Japan, such as ‘mokuhanga’. The Japanese use a whole other inking method to the one I am familiar with, achieving beautiful effects that I am envious of. So, you’ll see a lot of trial and error with regard to that.

As for digital art, at the moment I am focusing on flower arrangements. I am working with flowers, creating a flower arrangement portfolio, and using those images as the basis for digital drawing. I’ve got to start somewhere, right? So I figured, use what I already have. (I don’t know if those reading this have ever used photoshop but I’m finding that layers are really helping me with figuring out the colours and layering when planning my physical prints as well!)

Alright, I think I’ll stop here. Better to keep an introduction short and sweet –nobody likes it when things drag on.

Thanks for reading. See you in the next post~
